Jamaica’s top shooters gear up for Rangers Sporting Clays shoot with defending champions in the mix

Defending champions Craig Simpson and Wendy McMaster are geared up to defend their titles at the upcoming Rangers Gun Club Sporting Clays shoot, scheduled for Sunday, with a 10 am shotgun start at the True Juice complex in Bog Walk, St. Catherine.

The venue holds special significance for the duo, as it has been a happy hunting ground for their past victories.

Craig Simpson achieved his highest score in the sport (97 out of a possible 100) at this venue, while Wendy McMaster dethroned her daughter and two-time winner Aliana with a score of 82. The competition promises to be intense, with some of Jamaica Skeet Club’s finest shooters participating in the event.

Wendy McMaster aims at a target during the 2023 Rangers Gun Club Sporting Clays shoot in Bog Walk, St. Catherine.

Among the top contenders are nine-time national shotgun champion Ian Banks, six-time national shotgun champion Shaun Barnes, and four-time national shotgun champion Christian Sasso, along with other notable shooters like Chad Ziadie, Ray McMaster, and Nicholas Benjamin.

Shooters in various classes

On the female side, competitors include two-time winner Aliana McMaster, her sister Leanne, and Renee Rickhi from the Jamaica Rifle Association’s Alpha Angels lady shooters.

The challenging 18-station driving course will present targets of varying types, including true pairs, rabbits, and targets released over gentle flowing streams.

Approximately 150 shooters are expected to participate in the event, which will also feature team competitions among local gun clubs. Part proceeds from the event will be donated to the Food For the Poor organization.

The Rangers Gun Club Sporting Clays shoot is sponsored by Sterling Asset Management, with support from Worthy Park Select, National, and STLSOLAR. Established in the mid-1980s, the club has a rich history and is currently focused on sporting clays, the most popular form of the sport.
